Again Josephine was trying to tell a story with this painting, of the many different trades that were in the yard such as moulders, labourers, riveters, platers, cabinet makers, fitters, drillers, crane men, clerks, its a mixed media with using old money, she has used old apprenticeship papers showing when an apprenticeship started and ended, history from the late 1800's, the info that is included within the painting are all from original papers just photocopied so they could be added.
When you think of the conditions and hours these men worked, they were men of steel.
This is a print of an original illustration made with pencil, watercolor, love and ink on fine art paper, printed on paper of the highest quality, the thickness, porosity and the base color of the paper give a special touch to the illustration.
